Enclosure Purge & Pressurisation
Purge and pressurisation is an Internationally recognised method of protection for electrical equipment in hazardous areas. The use of these systems ensures the interior of an electrical enclosure is free of flammable gas.
Pressurisation is divided into three types of protection (PX, PY and PZ) which are selected based upon the equipment protection level required for the external explosive gas atmosphere.
X Purge – designed to change the pressurised enclosure internals from a Zone 1 or Class I Division 1 area into a safe area
Y Purge – designed to allow the user to install Zone 2 or Class I Division 2 certified equipment into Zone 1 or Class I Division 1 areas
Z Purge – designed to change the pressurised enclosure internals from a Zone 2 or Class I Division 2 area into a safe area
