PlexPower™ Panelboards use circuit breaker modules that provide explosionproof protection for standard off-the-shelf breakers – eliminating the need for a heavy cast enclosure.

PlexPower™ Panelboards are lighter in weight than traditional cast enclosures. They can be coupled in horizontal or vertical orientations to accommodate almost any footprint. No hard wiring or looping – an integral hard drawn, tin plated copper bus bar provides exceptional corrosion resistance and offers greater flexibility for expansion and upgrades while eliminating wire stresses and improving short circuit withstand capabilities.

85% LOWER OPERATIONAL COSTS09712e19-41a5-4eed-b1cb-a2bf2ef9cd00

PlexPower™ Panelboards are quicker and easier to install, operate, upgrade and maintain, delivering substantial savings compared to the total ownership costs of a traditional cast and bolted panelboard.

Mercmaster™ LED Series is now ATEX/IECEx Certified

Posted in: Product News on June 6th, 2013

Appleton, one of the world’s leading manufacturers  of electrical products for  hazardous industrial locations, today announced that its Mercmaster™ LED  series, the most efficient and advanced line of LED fixtures for industrial and hazardous environments, is now approved for use in  ATEX/IECEx hazardous locations. Compliant with worldwide safety standards, the Mercmaster LED brings advantages to customers that include: lower weight, greater shock resistance, cold start capabilities, and minimal heat production, along with outstanding energy-efficiency.

Appleton introduced the original Mercmaster LED fixture almost three years ago, bringing its energy-saving benefits to customers worldwide.  Now, the Mercmaster  LED carries all required  safety certification for global use, meaning that electricians  working in nearly any hazardous environment around the world can benefit from its flexible, modular design in retrofits and plant expansions.

Mercmaster LED fixtures feature a single-piece, lightweight aluminum body that accommodates upgraded LED arrays generating light outputs from 2,300 to 6,075 lumens, an equivalent of 70W HID to 175W HID lamps. Four distinctive lumen output versions are available with a driver covering voltage requirements from 120-277 Vac.

To assist in installation and maintenance, each fixture is supplied with terminals to assure straightforward wiring, along with a threaded impact-resistant lens for faster removal. A unique hinge design promotes safety during installation and servicing, while also providing 360° compression on the ballast housing gasket. In addition, the new heatsink design prevents dust and debris from accumulating on the fixture, while an improved silicone rubber gasket seals out moisture, dirt and dust.

Zone 2 / 21 Hazardous Area Lighting

Posted in: Product News on November 15th, 2012

Heavy Duty, Nonmetallic Lighting | Standard & Emergency Back-up | Zone 2 - 21 & 22

Click here to download the datatsheet

Hazardous Area compliance is a requirement for industries dealing with explosive gases and dusts. Safe operation of electrical equipment in these environments requires special protection techniques. Understanding both the protection techniques and associated certification is one part of the process but it is also important to have equipment fit for purpose.

Heavy Duty, Nonmetallic Lighting | Standard & Emergency Back-up | Zone 2 - 21 & 22Most Zone 2 / 21 fluorescent light fittings are very basic. The Appleton ATX FNB Zone 2/21 Fluorescent fitting is in a class of its own. Packed with features to ensure a long life with easy maintenance the Appleton ATX FNB includes the following:

  • Practically indestructible hinged polycarbonate diffuser
  • Built in isolation switches to enable opening without isolating the entire lighting circuit
  • Patented vibration resistant spring loaded lamp holders
  • Unique single point opening via allen key or screw driver that interlocks the safety switches when lens is opened
  • Hinged multi-parabolic polycarbonate reflector for increased lumen output
  • Emergency units with LED battery indication that also perform a monthly self-test

These are the types of features you would find in a Zone 1 fitting but come at a Zone 2/21 price and are currently in stock at Pacific Automation offering a fast turnaround.

The Appleton ATX FNB fitting has been very successful in operations around Australia where light circuits have multiple lights. These have included indoor applications such as tunnels and storage facilities where there is little to no natural light. The unique isolation switches allows maintenance on the fitting without isolating the whole circuit, therefore eliminating the need for emergency and / or temporary lighting. This also removes the safety and risk concerns associated with lighting maintenance.

Many operations around Australia are already using the ATX FNB Zone 2/21 fitting in environments such as grain, coal, power generation and petrochemical industries. For a viewing, more information or to obtain a quote contact PacificEX on (08) 9414 7999 or email sales@pacificex.com.au.

Drilling companies see the light with Hadar

Posted in: Company News, Product News on June 28th, 2012

Shipyard workers in Dubai are already seeing the benefits of the investment in Hadar Lighting’s innovative new LED floodlights for jack-up rigs which come into the Sharjah shipyard for refurbishment work.

As part of the rigs’ general refurbishment, the traditional deck floodlights are being changed out with Hadar Lighting’s HDL106 LED floodlights certified for Zone 1 Hazardous Area use. The company, part of the Ashington-based A-Belco Group, is experiencing a huge demand for the lights and is currently fulfilling orders from oil and gas companies across the world from the UK to Australia where, in conjunction with Pacific Automation, they have had their biggest single order for the Gorgon gas project.

The Dubai order, placed by their Middle East distributor, has been fitted onto four drilling jack-up rigs in triple and single lamp units, providing vastly superior visibility on deck for both temporary shipyard workers and permanent crew.

Hadar Lighting’s Sales Director, Bill Armstrong, commented, “We know these rigs well having supplied and installed other Hadar products previously, particularly in the shaker houses where our HDL 100 Luminaires were still performing excellently despite the very high levels of vibration. The new LED floodlights, however, have been an even greater success by providing such a vast improvement in visibility for the crew and shipyard workers.”

“The lights produce purer light, weigh less, last far longer than traditional sodium or halogen equivalents, have no warm up period, produce very little heat and have an expected lifespan in excess of 10 years without any maintenance in line with industry’s preferred ‘fit and forget’ requirements. In addition, power consumption of the new floodlights is approximately 40% of traditional equivalent, with various beam dispersal patterns of between 10 degrees and 120 degrees meaning the light goes where it’s designed to go rather than being wasted.”

Hadar are currently working to fulfill global orders for the innovative LED floodlights for both onshore and offshore oil and gas applications.

Features of the HDL106

  • Low power consumption
  • Rugged construction – resistant to vibration
  • IP66 and IP67
  • Narrow, Medium, Wide and Extra Wide beam light output available
  • Multiple mounting options available
  • LED technology will give a predicted lamp life of 10 years+

  • 60% less weight
  • 50% less power consumption
  • Instant start and restrike
  • Penetrating white light
